At Leukaemia UK our mission is to stop leukaemia devastating lives. As well as accelerating progress through life-changing research, we also advocate on behalf of those affected by the disease. By bringing together the leukaemia community and amplifying our voices we can help to make sure that people receive their diagnosis as early as possible and following this have access to the best possible treatment and care.

For this we need your help.

Leukaemia UK’s Community Champions have all experienced the impact of this terrible disease first hand. By joining us you can help champion the need for improvements across diagnosis, treatment and care both at a national level and within your local community, and help us to fund and advocate for more research into better, kinder treatments for leukaemia.

Volunteering as a Leukaemia UK Community Champion is a fantastic opportunity to get out into the community promoting the need for better research and treatments and at the same time meet many lovely people from the staff at Leukaemia UK and other wonderful volunteers. After experiencing life changing therapy, volunteering as a Community Champion for Leukaemia UK is a great way to give something back.

How you can drive change as a Community Champion

As a Community Champion, you will help to support the work of Leukaemia UK through:

  • Helping us to understand the issues that patients face
  • Increasing awareness of the disease
  • Engaging decision makers to prioritise improvements in leukaemia diagnosis, treatment and care
  • Raising money for vital leukaemia research
  • Supporting us with the development of our campaigns

From setting up a meeting with your local policy maker to advocate for change, to attending community groups to share your experience, to organising fundraising events and encouraging local employers to raise money for Leukaemia UK, you can get involved in a range of activities that will help make a real difference to our work.

Our specialist teams will be here to support you every step of the way, and you will have the opportunity to meet, network with and learn from other Community Champions.

Expectations of the role

This is a flexible role to suit your availability, and as such, there are no minimum commitments. We will mainly ask you to support us in your local area, but with opportunities to travel beyond this if of interest.
